Solar Eclipse 2017

At midnight on August 21st we embarked on our journey to Glendo State Park, WY to witness a total solar eclipse for the very first time. Surprisingly there weren't any delays on the highway and we arrived at 3:20am. It would have been fun to stargaze with such a dark night sky, but the periodic passing of oncoming cars with their bright headlights made that rather difficult. Still, it was nice to see the Milky Way so clearly.

As the sun rose there was much anticipation in the air. People were already setting up their cameras, telescopes, lawn chairs, canopies, ice chests, laptops, ... We were very fortunate to be in an area that was quite spacious and open, especially considering the number of people and cars in Wyoming had doubled by eclipse day. The partial eclipse was fun, but totality was truly awe inspiring. It was magnificent and beautiful; an extraordinarily breathtaking and moving experience that was unlike any other in nature. Pictures simply cannot do it justice, but here's the gallery of our photos anyway.

Cary was doing his best at staying in the moment (observing & experiencing, not documenting 😊) during the 2 minutes and 28 seconds of totality, so there aren't very many pictures.
